The Portland Stage and Bar is the largest indoor area onsite at the Fair housed in a 360 square meter marquee with a capacity of 1000. You can chill in the shade to great music on the 40 square metre stage whilst enjoying fine drinks from the excellent Portland Arms bar. The stage will feature over 10 hours of eclectic performances from some of the best local entertainers, singer/songwriters, duos and bands in the East Anglian area.

It’s going to be our big 10th year of the Portland Stage at Strawberry Fair in 2024 and the Fair celebrates 50 golden years too as it’s been held annually on Midsummer Common, Cambridge since the 1970s. So 70s Gold is our theme for the day: Dig out your hippy clothes and gold lame lurex and celebrate with us on Saturday 1 June 2024. It will still be the usual eclectic mix of performers plus the added glitz of Gold, Disco Balls and 70s fancy dress.

This year’s event is on facebook at facebook.com/events/312573398428140

We need your help!

The Fair is FREE, Non-sponsored and Volunteer Run. We really need you to help if you can to ensure we can put the stage (and the Fair) on so if you can please donate (cash or gold!) at gofund.me/6beb50d5.

Why not get involved and become part of our crew – it could be a couple of hours stewarding on the day or helping in the set up beforehand and the takedown afterwards. To volunteer email avalonites@gmail.com or see the Get Involved page on how you can help the Fair more generally.

Who we are

Rockinmike Wilson (a strawberry fairie for over twenty years) started as the area co-ordinator for the Portland Stage in 2014.

The Portland Stage is presented by the EAST ANGLIAN FESTIVAL NETWORK and GIGS OUT

The real ale bar is provided by the very lovely Portland Arms who also provide the marquee and power for the Portland Stage and Bar.

Our amazing stage and superb sound and lighting management is from the lovely crew at We Are Blueshed. Power by Gofer Ltd.

Barton Studios kindly provide us with the stage drum kit.
