Strawberry Fair

Strawberry Fair 2011 was a great success, providing a fantastic day of diverse – and free- entertainment for all Cambridge. The Fair would not have been possible without the many volunteers that gave their time planning, producing, putting on and putting away the Fair. Yes, there's plenty to do.

Work on Strawberry Fair 2012 is already in progress, and we're looking for more local people to join in.

People volunteer with the Fair for many reasons – it's a great opportunity to get solid event experience, to get to know your neighbours, and to have fun – all that plus a magnificent sense of achievement seeing it all come together on the big day itself.

There is already plenty of to do, so don't wait until June – start your love-a-fair now... To volunteer please email us at iwanttohelp@strawberry-fair.org.uk

Volunteer roles

Production: Liaising with stallholders, organising the merchandising, responding to individual enquiries are just some of the production tasks that make an event like Strawberry Fair happen. If you're organised and methodical and keen to learn the nuts and bolts of event management, we're certain we can find a role for you in our excellent administration team.

Communications: We love Strawberry Fair and we want the whole of Cambridge to have the opportunity to enjoy it. The communications team works to promote the Fair throughout the year. If you're fairly confident and good with words, help us shout about the Fair!

Site crew: The Strawberry Fair site crew is renowned across Britain as one of the most efficient and 'on the ball' teams in large events. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and shifting all kinds of infrastructure (staging, fencing, tables, chairs, etc) and are available the week around the day of the Fair, then the site crew is the place for you.

Stewarding: Our stewards are the eyes and ears of the Fair on the day. As a steward you will be highlighting any health and safety issues that may arise on site before they escalate, provide visitors to the Fair with information, and help out in an emergency. We encourage stewards to deal only with situations they feel comfortable with and never put themselves in danger.

Environment team – Ready to muck in? Strawberry Fair strives to be environmentally friendly so we recycle as much rubbish created by the event as we can – about 40% at the moment. Help us make this at least 50%, just turn up on the day or in the days following the fair and ask for a bin bag and one of those cool grabber things. Even just a couple of hours will help get Midsummer Common cleaned up.
