The Parade
The Strawberry Fair parade is the biggest spectacle of the day and follows a different and relevant theme each year. This year, the theme is 'Recycling is Not a Myth' and the parade team's mission is to make Mythical Beasts and Creatures from recycled materials. It cannot happen, however, without the help from the local community so we invite anyone who is interested to come and be creative with us.
The Parade is a part of the Fair that uniquely enables members of the local community to become “performers” without any previous experience, and to increase their confidence by encouraging them to use artistic and practical skills that they may never have known they had by teaching them to make Carnival costumes.
The workshops for making costumes will be held every Sunday until the fair from 11am until 4pm at Anglia Ruskin University in Rackham 011. Everyone is welcome, regardless of how creative you are and any amount of time you can donate we are especially grateful of.
The parade itself comprises up to 100 samba players (from the local Arco Iris Samba Band) and 20 – 30 costume wearers. The parade lasts for approximately one hour. The parade takes a route around the town centre - which will be confirmed soon.
The fair is then officially OPEN! Come and join in and have some fun!

The Parade Operatives
Emma Hanid: "I have been a participant in the Samba band in the parade for four years so thought it was about time I put something back in. I love the spectacle we make as we parade the streets of cambridge and the feeling of being the most original and 'coolest' thing in the Cambridge events calendar."
Ann Templar: Co conspirator. It would feel wrong not to give Ann a mention - "We're in it together..."
